Key deadlines for Katy households
Both enrollment windows happen every fall:
- Medicare AEP: October 15 – December 7 (changes start January 1)
- ACA Marketplace: November 1 – January 15
- Apply by December 15 for ACA coverage effective January 1
- ACA applications after December 15 start February 1
Which window applies to you?
If you're on Medicare, the October 15 – December 7 window is yours — it's your chance to change Advantage or Part D plans for next year. If you buy your own coverage because you're not on Medicare and don't get insurance through an employer, the November 1 – January 15 ACA window is yours.
If your income is lower, or you need pre-existing conditions covered, an ACA Marketplace plan — also called Obamacare or simply the Marketplace — is your only real option. It is the only coverage that must accept you regardless of health history and the only coverage that comes with income-based premium tax credits.
