What BCBSTX announced—and what it means
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas states that, effective January 1, 2027, it will no longer offer Blue Cross Medicare Advantage plans for the 2027 plan year. If you received a notice that your plan is ending, use that notice to confirm your coverage end date and enrollment instructions.
This does not mean all Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas insurance has been canceled, and it does not by itself cancel Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and other Blue Cross products are different types of coverage.
Read the official BCBSTX noticeSelect a new plan during Annual Enrollment through December 7
Medicare Annual Enrollment runs October 15–December 7 each year. During October 15–December 7, 2026, you can join, switch or drop Medicare Advantage coverage; switch between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage; or join, switch or drop a separate Part D drug plan if you have Original Medicare. Your choices depend on your current coverage and eligibility. The plan must receive your enrollment request by December 7 for coverage generally starting January 1, 2027.
If you choose Original Medicare, you may need a separate Part D drug plan. Medigap has separate eligibility rules and application deadlines; Annual Enrollment does not itself guarantee Medigap acceptance.
For an eligible person whose plan's Medicare contract is not renewed for 2027, the separate nonrenewal Special Enrollment Period runs –. You can select another Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone Part D plan with Original Medicare, subject to eligibility. Coverage generally starts the first day of the month after the plan receives the enrollment request; a December request generally starts January 1. Waiting until January or February can delay new coverage and leave a drug-coverage gap. Other plan-ending situations have different windows. Confirm your official notice and effective date with Medicare or the plan.
Replacement-plan considerations for Brookshire residents
Waller County and nearby I-10 communities
Brookshire residents may receive care locally, in Katy or in Houston. Replacement-plan eligibility is based on your residence, while provider access depends on the exact network; proximity along I-10 is not proof of coverage.
- Confirm Waller County availability using your home address.
- Verify Katy or Houston providers you travel to see.
- Compare network access and appointment arrangements before your old plan ends.
Original Medicare with separate Part D coverage is another path to review. Medicare Supplement eligibility, guaranteed-issue rights and application deadlines must be checked separately; acceptance is not guaranteed outside protected rights.
A practical next-step checklist
- Read your carrier notice. Identify the specific plan, end date and enrollment instructions.
- Confirm your enrollment period. Review Annual Enrollment and any applicable nonrenewal rights.
- Arrange a private review. Discuss the plans we represent after required permissions and Scope of Appointment are confirmed.
- Check before enrolling. Verify providers, prescriptions, costs, eligibility and the new coverage effective date.
Please do not submit Medicare numbers, diagnoses, medical records or coverage documents through this website. Keep required personal enrollment information in an appropriate secure carrier process.

Questions about BCBSTX Medicare Advantage nonrenewal
Is my Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Medicare Advantage plan canceled?
BCBSTX says it will no longer offer its Blue Cross Medicare Advantage plans for the 2027 plan year, effective January 1, 2027. This is a plan nonrenewal announcement, not a statement that every Blue Cross policy or your Original Medicare has been canceled. Read your official notice to confirm your specific plan and end date.
When can I select a new Medicare plan in Brookshire, Texas?
Annual Enrollment runs October 15 through December 7. For the 2027 plan year, an accepted enrollment made during October 15–December 7, 2026 generally starts January 1, 2027. Eligibility and service-area requirements still apply.
What if I miss December 7 and my plan is not renewing?
For an eligible person whose plan's Medicare contract is not renewed for 2027, the nonrenewal Special Enrollment Period runs December 8, 2026–February 28, 2027. You can select another Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone Part D plan with Original Medicare, subject to eligibility. Coverage generally starts the first day of the month after the plan receives your enrollment request. A January request generally starts February 1; a February request generally starts March 1. Waiting can leave a gap in drug coverage. Other plan-ending situations have different windows; confirm your notice and effective date with Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE.
Will I lose Original Medicare if my Medicare Advantage plan ends?
A Medicare Advantage nonrenewal does not by itself end your Medicare Part A and Part B eligibility. If you do not join another Medicare Advantage plan before your current plan ends, you generally return to Original Medicare when it ends. This does not automatically establish Part D drug coverage: you may need to join a separate Medicare drug plan. Review any Medigap rights and application deadlines separately with Medicare.
Can I keep my doctors and prescriptions?
That depends on the replacement plan. Check each provider's exact practice location, the current formulary, pharmacies, referrals and prior authorization. Your old network or drug coverage does not automatically carry over.
Does calling enroll me or cancel my existing coverage?
No. A call requests assistance, not enrollment. Required permissions and Scope of Appointment must be handled before an individual plan discussion. Confirm acceptance and the new effective date before making coverage changes.
